How Cutera IPL Laser can Benefit You
Throughout our lives, we spend time outdoors, with much of this time being spent in the sun. This can lead to pesky age spots, sun damage, and more which can lead to premature aging. The Cutera IPL treatment employs intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat a number of skin issues for a more youthful complexion. Read on to learn more about this treatment and how it can benefit you.
What Is An IPL Laser?
This laser releases light of many different wavelengths, similar to a photo flash. This light reaches down to the second layer of skin called the dermis, without harming the upper layer of skin. Pigment cells in the skin absorb this light, which is then changed to heat, eliminating unwanted pigment.
The Cutera IPL laser can be used to address:
- Age spots
- Sun damage
- Rosacea
- Freckles
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
To begin your treatment, the skin of the treatment area will be cleansed and sometimes a topical numbing cream may be applied. Next, a cooling gel will be applied to the skin to decrease overheating and immediate redness or discomfort. You will be given protective eyewear to wear during treatment to protect your eyes from the laser light. The IPL handpiece will then be passed over the treatment area, emitting laser light to eliminate unwanted sun damage and pigmentation. One treatment session usually lasts 20 or 30 minutes.
Is There Any Downtime?
After your IPL treatment, your skin may appear swollen, red, and sensitive for a few hours. Applying cool compresses can help to alleviate redness and discomfort after treatment. You should avoid applying hot water to the treatment area until the skin is completely healed. Most people require a series of sessions each spaced weeks apart for the best results. To ensure prolonged results, be sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day.
