What is SkinPen Microneedling?

Are you unhappy with uneven skin tone, scarring, etc., but are looking for a natural way to improve your complexion? If this sounds like you, the SkinPen is for you! The SkinPen is the first microneedling device to be cleared by the FDA to safely treat facial acne scars in patients ages 22 and older. Unlike other skin treatments, SkinPen microneedling is effective for both men and women of all skin colors from light to dark.

The SkinPen can be used to treat the following:

  • Sun damage.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Age spots.
  • Acne scarring.
  • Uneven skin tone.
  • Large pores.
  • Stretch marks.

This treatment also offers many benefits, including:

  • Minimally invasive with no downtime required.
  • Is considered safe for the majority of patients.
  • Generates new collagen and skin tissue for a beautiful complexion.
  • Is all-natural.

Wondering if you are a candidate for this treatment? The best way to determine if this procedure is a good fit for you is through a consultation appointment with our dermatologist, Dr. Erwin. During this appointment, she will assess your skin and listen to your questions and concerns to create an individualized treatment plan. She understands that no two patients are alike, and so each treatment plan should be created for each individual patient.

SkinPen Microneedling Treatment

Topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area for 15 minutes before the procedure to ensure your comfort. During the microneedling treatment, the SkinPen device creates many micro-injuries in the dermis, which stimulates the production of new collagen without causing scar tissue to form. These micro-injuries trigger the skin’s natural healing process, producing collagen and elastin for a more rejuvenated skin appearance. Patients usually need a series of three treatments to see ideal results.

SkinPen Microneedling FAQs

How long does SkinPen microneedling last?

Your SkinPen results can last as long as you maintain good skincare and return for touch-up treatments.

What is the downtime for SkinPen?

You can expect some mild swelling and redness for a few days after treatment, but it subsides quickly. Make sure to avoid heat, sun, and sweating during this time to avoid irritating the skin.

Are SkinPen results permanent?

SkinPen is not a permanent procedure, but you can maintain your results with good skincare and physician-grade treatments regularly.

Is microneedling better than Botox?

Microneedling and Botox achieve different goals, but they can actually be combined for more effective rejuvenation. Dr. Erwin can discuss your best options for both treatments.

Can you see results after one microneedling treatment?

You can begin to see noticeable results within a few weeks of your first treatment. Your results will compound with additional treatments and effective at-home skincare.

SkinPen Microneedling Recovery

Following SkinPen microneedling, redness and swelling may occur, though there should be minimal to no downtime. This means you can return to your everyday activities as soon as you feel comfortable. Results are usually seen after the first and second treatment, though it will take time for your collagen and elastin to grow and cause changes to the skin. Your skin will continue to improve over 6-12 months after the full series of treatments is completed. Do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any post-treatment questions or concerns.
