Botox , Dysport, Xeomin

Botox , Dysport, Xeomin are all injections approved by the FDA to improve the appearance of the vertical lines between the brows. Injections in other areas to improve appearance of facial lines have been reported in the literature, but the FDA has not approved those uses. The results of these injections are usually dramatic, although the practice of medicine is not an exact science and no guarantees can be or have been made concerning expected results.
The injections are made with a tiny needle into the muscle; you should see the benefits develop over the next two to ten days. A decreased appearance of frowning or creasing of other lines will be the result of this treatment. The results usually last 3 to 4 months. It is recommended that patients undergoing this treatment for the first time with Dr. Erwin return 2 weeks after the injection for an evaluation. If you notice any asymmetry prior to two weeks, please call for a sooner appointment.

Possible side effects: Serious problems are rare. Less severe side effects that may occur include: headache, respiratory infection, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. Slight bruising may occur at the injection sites. If you take aspirin, vitamin E, ginko, garlic, ginsing, or NSAIDS (e.g. ibuprofen) it is recommended that you stop these supplements (with approval of prescribing physician) 14 days prior to the treatment to decrease bruising after the procedure.

Post-procedure instructions: Do not rub areas where you were injected. Actively move the injected muscles in the first hour or two after injected. Do not lie down or bend over for 4 hours after your injections. Do not perform any vigorous exercise of lifting the day of the injections. If you have any pain or develop a headache after the injections, you may take Tylenol. Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen as it may lead to bruising. If you develop any problems or complications after the procedure, call the office.

Please notify Dr. Erwin’s staff if you have a preference on Botox, Dysport or Xeomin. They are made by different companies and all work essentially the same. Some patients prefer one particular product.
